Rooted in tradition. Adapted with care.

Choose a steady group practice or a more individual session. Each class honours the body, the breath and yoga’s deeper purpose, with Pranayama woven naturally into the practice.

  • Balance and fall preventionCareful attention to balance, leg strength and coordination supports steadiness and confidence in everyday movement.
  • Joint mobility and strengthGentle movement keeps the hips, knees, shoulders and spine mobile while building light, functional strength.
  • Deep relaxationClasses finish with a guided rest or Yoga Nidra, sometimes accompanied by the healing, resonant sound of the gong.

Chair Yoga

Chair Yoga offers older adults a safe, welcoming way to enjoy the benefits of yoga. Because much of the practice is seated—or uses the chair for support—it can also suit frail students, people with limited mobility or anyone who feels less steady standing.

  • Gentle movement and circulationComfortable seated movements wake up the body and encourage healthy circulation without overexertion.
  • Flexibility and strengthAdapted movements support joints and muscles and may ease stiffness, including for people living with arthritis.
  • Better postureMindful alignment and gentle strengthening support the spine and make sitting and standing feel more comfortable.
  • Calm and restBreath awareness and relaxation can quieten the mind, ease stress and encourage more restful sleep.
  • Balance and confidenceWhen appropriate, supported standing exercises help improve balance and coordination, building confidence for everyday movement.

Pranayama / Breathwork

In Sanskrit, prana means “life force.” Pranayama is the conscious guidance of the breath—the bridge between body and mind.

Through gentle breathing techniques adapted to each student, we explore how the breath can steady attention, support energy and invite a deeper sense of calm. Pranayama is an important part of every Atlantic Flow class and may also be practised as a focused session.

“Breathe in deeply to bring your mind home to your body.”

Dorly seated in meditation in her yoga studio

Founder & teacher

Dorly

Yoga entered Dorly’s life in her fifties and became a source of joy, vitality and transformation. Over more than two decades she has trained and taught in Hatha, Kundalini, remedial and Hormone Yoga.

Now 80, she brings first-hand understanding to adapting yoga for older bodies, minds and hearts. She teaches with care, uses props freely and ends class with restorative deep relaxation.

“I practise what I teach: move with awareness, respect the body and keep the spirit alive.”

Drawing on her broad knowledge and experience of yoga, she incorporates chair yoga and other props to support movement suited to each student’s abilities.

Claire Tilson

Claire has taught at the studio for more than 18 years. Her classes draw on classical postures, flowing sequences, pranayama, relaxation and meditation.

Her approach is inclusive and grounded in yoga’s traditional depth—not as a fashionable workout, but as a practice of self-understanding and connection.

“The body speaks to those who listen.”

— Julia

“I’m always amazed at how each class seems to offer exactly what I need at that moment—for body, mind and soul. Claire has an intuitive understanding of her participants’ needs, thoughtfully offering alternative poses when things are particularly challenging or to accommodate injuries. I leave every session with a lightness of being and renewed energy for the day.”

“Claire puts all into her classes. Each class is unique and she can work around your injuries and issues. She has many years of experience. I love this mindfulness practice which brings me inner peace and connection.”

Our teaching

A practice, not a performance.
